Pax World Funds focus on the investment risks and opportunities arising from the transition to a more sustainable global economy. We examine those risks and opportunities across all regions, sectors and securities, and we integrate fundamental ESG research into all of our investment portfolios.

As a result of this sustainability focus and our SmartCarbon approach, nine Pax funds are completely fossil fuel free. By reducing exposure to fossil fuel companies that we believe will be impacted by increased climate-related regulation, we aim to build more resilient portfolios for our investors, to reduce climate-related risks and participate in the low carbon energy transition.

Defining fossil fuel free

By fossil fuel free, we mean that we are not invested in securities of companies significantly involved in the extraction and/or refining of fossil fuels (coal, oil and gas), which includes:

  • exploration and production
  • refining and marketing
  • storage and transportation
  • equipment and services

Collectively, these companies comprise the Energy sector according to the Global Industry Classification Standard (GICS®), a widely recognized industry standard.
