Ian Simm

Founder & CEO

Ian Simm is the Founder and Chief Executive of Impax Asset Management Group plc, one of the world’s leading investment managers dedicated to investing in the transition to a more sustainable economy. Prior to Impax, Ian was an engagement manager at McKinsey & Company advising clients on environmental strategy.

Outside Impax, Ian is a member of the UK government’s Net Zero Innovation Board, which provides strategic oversight of public sector funding of energy innovation programmes, and is a board member of the Institutional Investors Group on Climate Change, the European membership body for investor collaboration on addressing climate change. He is also a commissioner with the Energy Transitions Commission, a global coalition of leaders developing transition roadmaps to achieve net-zero emissions. Between 2013 and 2018, he was a board member of the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC), the UK’s leading funding agency for environmental science. He supports charities in the clean energy, healthcare and a range of scientific and environmental sectors. 

Ian has a first-class honours degree in physics from Cambridge University and a Master’s in Public Administration from Harvard University. In the last century he initiated and led an expedition to complete the first summer crossing of the Sahara Desert by tandem bicycle.

Hubert Aarts

Deputy Chief Investment Officer, Listed Equities

Hubert serves as Deputy CIO, Listed Equities. Hubert is a key figure overseeing Impax Asset Management’s investment strategies in the listed equities space and is jointly responsible for the development of our investment process, research, and team. He also researches stocks globally, specialising in industrials and consumer discretionary companies.

Prior to joining Impax in 2007, Hubert was a partner at Cambrian Capital. He also spent nearly a decade at BlackRock working as a portfolio manager in European equities. His first role was at MeesPierson in The Netherlands.

Hubert has a master’s degree in Economics and Business Administration from Maastricht University.

Lisa Beauvilain

Global Head of Sustainability & Stewardship

Lisa heads the global sustainability and stewardship team at Impax. She is responsible for the oversight and development of sustainability research and methodologies, including the Impax Sustainability Lens and the firm’s proprietary ESG analysis, as well as overseeing Impax’s stewardship work. She is the Chair of Impax’s ESG and Sustainability Lens committees and Co-Heads the firm’s impact investment work.

Lisa joined Impax in 2010. She started working in the financial industry in 1999 and previously worked as an executive director in the Investment Management Division of Goldman Sachs in London.

She is actively participating in industry working groups and advisory councils furthering sustainable practices within corporate governance, climate, diversity and ESG standard setting in several external industry organisations.

Lisa has an MSc in Environment and Development from the London School of Economics as well as an MSc in Finance from the Hanken School of Economics, Finland.

Catherine Bremner

Chief Strategy & Operations Officer

Catherine is Impax’s Chief Strategy & Operations Officer. She is responsible for line managing Impax Asset Management’s risk and compliance functions, IT, and operations, as well as strategic projects working with the CEO. With over 25 years of experience in sustainable development, finance, strategy and change management, she is also a highly respected leader in green finance.

Before joining Impax in 2021, Catherine spent five years at the UK Government’s Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy, including acting as Director General, responsible for around 500 staff tasked with developing the UK’s Net Zero Strategy and International Climate and Energy policy. She also chaired the UK Government’s Climate and Energy G7 Presidency in 2022. Before this, she was Global Head of Environmental Sustainability at Australian financial services firm ANZ. She was also Chief Operating Officer at Low Carbon Australia and Head of International Development at the Carbon Trust.

Outside of Impax, Catherine is on the Board of the Met Office and is the Chair of its Remuneration Committee.

Catherine holds a Master’s degree in Public Policy from the London School of Economics, a master’s degree in Environmental Science and Management from Oxford University and a bachelor’ degree (Hons 1st) in Chemical Engineering from The University of Queensland.

Karen Cockburn

Chief Financial Officer

Karen Cockburn is Impax’s Chief Financial Officer. She is responsible for overseeing Impax’s Finance, Investor Relations, People and Legal functions, as well as Governance processes. As a member of Impax’s Executive Committee, she contributes to the Firm’s commercial and strategic business matters. Karen is also an Executive Director on the Board of Impax Asset Management Group plc.

Karen is a qualified Chartered Accountant with over 25 years’ financial and operational experience in financial services. Before joining Impax in 2022 Karen was transformation CFO at Virgin Money plc, focused on the integration of Virgin Money and Clydesdale Banking Group. Prior to that she spent nine years at Aegon in various strategy, transformation and finance leadership roles, laterally as Chief Financial Officer of Cofunds. Having qualified with KPMG, she spent her early career with GE Capital, a global financial service provider, and Lloyds Banking Group. Karen is also a founder and board member of a digital start up, Legado Technologies Ltd.


Karen is a fellow of the Irish Institute of Chartered Accountants and holds a BSc and MSc in Finance /Accounting from Queen’s University, Belfast.

Ed Farrington

Head of Distribution for North America

Ed is Head of Distribution for North America. Ed leads Impax Asset Management’s institutional and intermediary sales and client service efforts, engaging with consultants, advisers, institutions, and plan sponsors on issues ranging from investing in the transition to a more sustainable economy to global retirement systems.

He joined Impax in 2021 from Natixis Investment Managers where he held a similar role for 12 years. Prior to that he worked in sales and sales management for Fidelity Investments, Fidelity Charitable Services and Pioneer Investments.

With a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of New Hampshire, Ed also holds the FINRA Series 6, 7, 24, and 31 registrations, and is a registered representative of Foreside Financial Services, LLC. He serves on the Travis Roy Foundation board of trustees, the World Surf League advisory board, The Levitate Foundation and the sustainability advisory board at the University of New Hampshire.

Charles French

Deputy Chief Investment Officer, Listed Investments

Charles provides support and leadership in the development and growth of the Impax Asset Management’s listed investments business, covering research, idea generation, portfolio management, ESG integration, and trading.

Prior to joining Impax Asset Management in 2022, Charles worked at Newton Investment Management where he started out as a global financial analyst before becoming a portfolio manager and heading up Newton’s multi-asset and equity opportunities teams. He was also deputy chief investment officer, providing leadership and oversight to a global investment team.

Charles graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Nottingham. He is also a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants (ICAEW) in England and Wales.

Bruce Jenkyn-Jones

Chief Investment Officer (CIO), Listed Investments

Bruce serves as Impax’s Chief Investment Officer, Listed Investments. Bruce is one of Impax Asset Management’s longest-serving employees. He developed the firm’s listed equities business and the division’s investment thesis. He is responsible for overseeing and enhancing all aspects of the listed investments business, including monitoring performance, ensuring regulatory compliance, and spearheading product design. Bruce is a co-Portfolio Manager of the Specialists and Climate strategy.

Before joining Impax in 1999, Bruce worked as a utilities analyst at Bankers Trust and as an environmental consultant for Environmental Resources Management.

An Oxford graduate with a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Bruce also holds a master’s in Environmental Engineering Technology, and an MBA from IESE Business School in Barcelona.

Darren Johnson

Global Chief Operating Officer

Darren Johnson is Impax’s Chief Operating Officer. He sits on our executive committee and is responsible for operations throughout the organisation. He has held this role since joining in 2007 and in that time has driven operational transformation, built teams and pioneered the company’s transition into cloud services to support rapid growth.

Prior to Impax, Darren held a similar role for family office Talisman Global Asset Management and his previous experience has included roles at RAB Capital, AXA Investment Managers, and Legal & General.

Darren sits on the board of several charities and organisations, including St Mungo’s, the UK’s largest homeless charity, and the investment advisory board of Comic Relief. He is a prominent advocate of diversity issues across financial services, is co-founder of TalkAboutBlack, sits on the CIC board of the Diversity Project, which aims to accelerate progress towards an inclusive culture in the investment and savings industry, and is on the Standing Committee for Investment 20/20, an organisation providing school leavers and graduates from non-traditional backgrounds with opportunities in asset management.

Joseph Keefe

President

Joe is President of Impax Asset Management. Based in the Portsmouth office, he is responsible for distribution of Impax’s full capabilities across North America.

Prior to joining the firm in May 2005, Joe was President of NewCircle Communications, a strategic consulting and communications firm specializing in corporate social responsibility and public policy communications. He served as Senior Advisor for Strategic Social Policy at Calvert Group from 2003-2005 and as Executive Vice President and General Counsel of Citizens Advisers from 1997-2000. He is a former member of the Board of Directors (2000-2006) of US SIF, the trade association representing asset managers and investors engaged in sustainable investing throughout the United States. Before entering the investment management industry, Joe worked in private law practice for 16 years.

Joe holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy from the College of the Holy Cross.

Daniel von Preyss

Head of PE/Infrastructure, Executive Director

Daniel joined Impax in 2009 and heads Impax’s Private Equity/Infrastructure business. Daniel is a member of the investment committees for each of the New Energy Funds.

Daniel has significant business and senior transactional experience with blue chip companies within the energy and utility sectors. Prior to joining Impax he was responsible for Babcock & Brown’s Northern European infrastructure investment activities. Prior to this, Daniel was Director in the European Energy and Utilities team at Deutsche Bank with a strong focus on M&A activity in Europe and a member of Citigroup’s Utilities team.

Daniel holds an MBA from Cologne University (Germany) and studied International Business for one year under a scholarship at Sophia University in Japan.

Paul Voûte

Head of Distribution, Europe & Asia-Pacific

Paul is Head of Distribution for Europe & Asia-Pacific. He oversees Impax Asset Management’s distribution efforts in several key markets, taking a leading role in managing business development, consultant relations and RFPs. He has worked in this function since joining the firm in 2022.

Before joining Impax, Paul held a similar role at Federated Hermes and, before its takeover, Hermes Investment Management. With a career starting in 1997, Paul has worked in distribution and business development throughout his career in asset management with spells at GE Asset Management and Neuberger Berman.

Paul holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Studies from ESC Bordeaux and ISER Rotterdam. He is fluent in English, French and Dutch.

Zack Wilson

Group General Counsel

Zack serves as Group General Counsel for Impax Asset Management Group plc and is also Company Secretary. Prior to joining Impax in 2011, Zack was Director & General Counsel for the investment management and corporate finance advisory group Development Capital Management.

Previously he was Corporate Counsel for Telewest Global Inc (renamed Virgin Media Inc), where he played a leading role in managing the successful execution of high profile transactions including the Group’s US$10bn financial restructuring. Zack qualified as a solicitor at the global law firm Norton Rose, specialising in Corporate Finance.

He holds a Master of Arts in Jurisprudence from Oxford University.


Leah Wood, CFA®

Global Head of Marketing and Client Experience

Leah is responsible for the client experience globally, managing the global marketing team and regional client service teams to deepen and strengthen client relationships.

Joining Impax in 2016, Leah started her career in 2008 and has experience in both equities research and institutional asset management. Before joining Impax, she was part of the multi-asset team at Russell Investments where she worked after starting her career in equity research at Renaissance Capital.

Leah has a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and Finance from Sacred Heart University and a master’s degree in Sustainability Management from Columbia University. She is also a CFA® charterholder.

Agne Rackauskaite

Portfolio Manager

Agne co-manages the Sustainable Food strategy and has been a member of the strategy’s Portfolio Construction team since its inception in 2012. Agne also researches stocks globally with a particular focus on the Consumer Staples, Industrials and Materials sectors.

Agne has been a part of the Impax Asset Management team since 2011, when she joined the Listed Investments team as an equity investment analyst.

Agne graduated from the University of Warwick with a bachelor’s degree in Economics and is a CFA Charterholder.

Amber Fairbanks, CFA®

Portfolio Manager

Amber joined Impax’s Listed Investments team to help the firm develop new products, including in Social Investment and will become a co-portfolio manager on a planned new strategy. She has over 20 years of experience in investment management and has been managing sustainable equity portfolios for the last 12 years.

Before joining Impax Asset Management in 2023, Amber worked at Mirova where she was co-manager of the Mirova International Sustainable Equity, US Sustainable Equity and Global Sustainable Equity funds. Prior to joining Mirova in October 2018, Amber was a portfolio manager and analyst at Zevin Asset Management for over a decade. Previously, she was an analyst at J.L. Kaplan Associates, a division of Evergreen Investments, and worked for Delta Partners, a Boston-based hedge fund.

Amber received her MBA from Boston College Carroll School of Management and has a BS in environmental science from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Amber is a CFA® charterholder and a member of the Chartered Financial Analysts Institute and the Boston Security Analysts Society.

Andrew Braun, Pax World Funds

Andrew Braun

Senior Portfolio Manager

Andrew is a portfolio manager of US large cap equities for Impax Asset Management, and also works in the firm’s sustainable allocation team. He has held this role since 2017.

Before joining Impax, Andrew served as Managing Director for the value equity team at Goldman Sachs Asset Management. He began at the firm in 1993, first as a product development associate before progressing to Portfolio Manager and co-Chief Investment Officer, leading a team of 30 portfolio managers and analysts. Prior to Goldman Sachs, Andrew served in the corporate finance division of Dillon, Read & Co as a financial analyst.

A Harvard University graduate with a bachelor’s degree in Economics, Andrew also has a master’s degree in Business Administration in finance and economics from New York University’s Stern School of Business.

Barbara Browning, CFA®

Portfolio Manager

Barbara is a co-portfolio manager at Impax Asset Management focusing on the consumer discretionary and consumer staples sectors, and on media and telecoms opportunities.

Before joining Impax in 2017, she oversaw various US Equity strategies in her role as Senior Portfolio Manager at RBC Global Asset Management. She was also a Senior Portfolio Manager at National City Bank and held a variety of equity research positions at companies including Banc One Investment Advisors and STRS Ohio.

Barbara has a bachelor’s degree in Economics from The Ohio State University. She is also a CFA Charterholder.

Christine Cappabianca

Portfolio Manager

Christine co-manages Impax’s Systematic strategies and the actively managed Sustainable Infrastructure strategy. She has a key role in identifying optimal sources of return from the sustainable and thematic universes.

Before joining Impax Asset Management in 2021, Christine worked at The Boston Company Asset Management as a quantitative analyst, remaining with the firm through its merger with Standish Asset Management and Mellon Capital, which created Mellon Investments. At Mellon, Christine was involved in research and portfolio management responsibilities for the firm’s Internet of Things, Blockchain Innovation, U.S. Manufacturing and Smart Cures Innovation thematic strategies. She also served as the ESG data expert on Mellon’s ESG Council, ensuring that data and sustainability metrics powered active portfolios.

Christine holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Harvard University and a master’s degree in investment management from Boston University. She holds the SASB FSA Credential.

Curtis Kim, CFA®

Portfolio Manager

Curtis co-manages Impax Asset Management’s US Small Cap Strategy, bringing his expertise to the firm’s coverage of innovative and compelling businesses further down the market cap spectrum.

He joined the investment industry in a fixed income research role at FactSet Research Systems in 2005, before moving to Legg Mason subsidiary Clearbridge Investments in 2008 to become a research analyst. In 2015, he joined SGF Capital Management, a long-short hedge fund focused on US small and mid-cap equities.

In addition to holding a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Colgate University, Curtis has a master’s degree in Business Administration from Cornell University. He is a CFA Charterholder.

David Winborne

Senior Portfolio Manager

David has been part of the Impax Asset Management team since 2015 and has responsibility for global research, specialising in energy efficiency and pollution control in environmental markets sub-sectors.

Prior to Impax, David was part of the in-house asset management team at Tesco Pension Investment where he had joint responsibility for the global equities investment platform. David also worked at Sarasin & Partners as part of the team that worked on its flagship thematic global equity fund. David began his career as a graduate equity research analyst at Insight Investment.

Diederik Basch, CFA®

Portfolio Manager

Diederik is a Portfolio Manager at Impax Asset Management. He started his investment analyst career in 2006 and has worked in the US, Europe and Asia.

Previous to joining Impax in 2016, Diederik served as a Senior Equity Analyst at RobecoSAM AG, a subsidiary of Robeco Group, in Zurich, Switzerland, where he conducted fundamental research, including integration of ESG factors, on the global consumer staples and discretionary sectors. He was a key supporting analyst for the firm’s thematic Sustainable Healthy Living and Sustainable Agribusiness funds. Diederik also completed an assignment in Robeco’s Hong kong office, working with its Asian equities team. Prior to RobecoSAM, he was a Senior Associate Analyst at canaccord Genuity, with a focus on small and mid-cap companies in the health, wellness and lifestyle sector.

A CFA Charterholder and member of the CFA Society Boston, Diederik holds a bachelor’s degree with a concentration in economics from Brandeis University and an MBA from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University where he was also a faculty-selected member of the Investment Management Academy.

Fotis Chatzimichalakis

Portfolio Manager

Fotis is a member of Impax Asset Management’s portfolio management team, where he researches stocks globally, focusing on the information technology and industrials sectors.

Fotis originally joined Impax as an intern in 2015, initially working in the listed equities team. He has held his current role since 2021. Prior to joining the firm, he had an internship at Barchester Green Investment.

A CFA Charterholder, Fotis also holds the Investment Management Certificate. He has master’s degree in Civil Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens and a master’s degree in Sustainable Energy Systems from the University of Edinburgh.

Harry Boyle

Portfolio Manager

Harry joined Impax in 2017, having previously worked for the Firm as a consultant assessing portfolio carbon risk. Initially he worked as a Portfolio Specialist gaining in depth knowledge of investee companies and the investment process. In 2021, Harry began work on the creation of Impax’s Sustainable Infrastructure Taxonomy, before becoming a Portfolio Manager in 2022.

Harry began his career in 2006 as an analyst at Bloomberg New Energy Finance, where he helped investors understand the evolving dynamics in energy, carbon and power markets. He subsequently worked at Aurium Capital as an investment manager investing debt into infrastructure projects before becoming an independent consultant raising capital for early-stage energy businesses.

Harry has an MA in Modern History from the University of St Andrews and an MSc in Finance from London Business School.

Jon co-manages Impax Asset Management’s Specialists and Climate strategies. Specialising in new energy, water, and waste support services, he researches stocks globally with a focus on the industrials and utilities sectors.

Justin analyses businesses globally with a particular focus on water and other environmental markets across the industrials, utilities, and materials sectors.

Before joining Impax in 2009, Justin worked as an investment analyst covering global equities for Hunter Hall, a pioneering Australian ethical investor. Hunter Hall employed a deep value, high-conviction approach with a screen against holdings in areas such as tobacco and nuclear energy. He also worked as a research analyst covering renewable energy at what is now BNEF (Bloomberg New Energy Finance) and, before moving into finance, as a consulting engineer working on major infrastructure projects including preparing Environment Impact Studies and conducting water supply analysis and flood modelling.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in Engineering from the University of Queensland and a master’s in commerce from the University of Sydney.

Manish Bishnoi

Manish Bishnoi

Portfolio Manager, Listed Equities

Manish joined Impax’s Listed Investments Team in April 2023 as a Portfolio Manager, based in Hong Kong. From October 2023 he will co-manage the Asian Environmental and Asian Opportunities strategies.

Manish has more than a decade of experience in Asian equities. Prior to Impax, Manish was a Portfolio Manager on the Asian Progress Fund at Macquarie Asset Management. He also served as a Senior Investment Analyst focusing on Asian Thematic Investments during his time in Macquarie.

A Chartered Financial Analyst, Manish also holds a certificate in Sustainable Finance from the University of Cambridge. He has a bachelor’s degree in software engineering from the University of Melbourne.

Michael Landymore

Senior Portfolio Manager

Michael is a member of Impax Asset Management’s portfolio management team, specialising in the Sustainable Food and Agriculture sectors. Michael has been advising investors and companies in the food and beverage industry since 1982.

Prior to joining Impax in 2012, Michael was part of the highly rated food equity analyst team at Investec Securities, before going to Rabobank, working principally in food-related corporate finance. He followed this with managing a food and agriculture strategy for Helvetica Wealth Management.

Michael has a degree in Economics from King’s College, Cambridge, and is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI).

Nathan Moser, CFA®

Senior Portfolio Manager

Nathan has been with Impax Asset Management since 2008 and in 2015 also joined the firm’s sustainable allocation portfolio management team.

He previously worked in the portfolio management team at Citizens Funds where he initially joined as an analyst. He began his investment career at John Hancock Investment Management.

Nathan is a CFA Charterholder and member of the CFA Institute. He also holds a bachelor’s degree in Investment and Economics from Babson College.

Siddharth Jha

Portfolio Manager

Siddharth is part of the portfolio construction team for the water strategy focusing predominantly on North American industrials, utilities and healthcare firms. He has been with Impax since 2014.

Prior to joining Impax in his current role, Siddharth completed an internship with the firm in 2012 where he worked with our listed equities team. He also has experience as a clean technology consultant, working in India.

Adam is a research analyst with expertise in environmental markets worldwide. He has particular knowledge of the Asia-Pacific region.

He joined Impax Asset Management as a graduate in August 2018, having previously worked as an intern within the firm’s listed equities team. Prior to joining Impax, he worked as an intern at NEquities Start-Up and Feed Algae Corporation.

Adam has a masters degree in Finance with climate change management from Imperial College London and a masters in Management from the University of Bath, achieving a distinction in both. He is a fluent Mandarin and English speaker.

Chris Eccles

Senior Research Analyst

Chris provides our investment teams with valuable insight across all healthcare sectors globally, specialising in regulatory affairs and biopharmaceuticals.

He started his finance career at Morgan Stanley, securing a European-focused pharmaceutical analyst role in 2011 after completing an internship with the firm a year earlier. After three years, he joined long/short equity hedge fund Kola Capital as a Senior Analyst before going on to work for Stifel in 2017 as a healthcare specialist.

Chris holds a first-class bachelor’s degree in Physiological Sciences from Oxford University.

Evie joined Impax in 2018 as a research analyst from Aberdeen Asset Management where she also carried out analysis for responsibly invested emerging markets portfolios. She joined Aberdeen in 2013 as part of its summer internship programme.

Mackenzie is a research analyst within the Impax Listed Equities team. Her research coverage is global and cuts across economic sectors to support all listed equity strategies. Mackenzie joined Impax in November 2018, originally as a member of the Client Service and Business Development team, where she worked to develop and strengthen client relationships while honing her knowledge of the Listed Investments investment philosophy and process. She brings a diversified background in sustainability and investment management, including shareholder engagement, manager due diligence, financial modelling, impact measurement and reporting, and research and consulting. She has worked at a number of institutions that focus on sustainability and investment, including the Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI), the UN Global Compact, The Investment Integration Project (TIIP), the Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility (ICCR) and Silver Leaf Partners.

Mackenzie holds an masters in Sustainability Management from Columbia University and a bachelors in Environmental Science from Queen’s University in Canada.

Matthew Wright

Research Analyst

Matthew works in our Listed Equities team, covering companies across the water value chain. He is also a specialist in physical climate risk research and impact, as they apply to Impax’s investments.

Matthew previously worked as an analyst in both a management consulting firm and in his first role as a carbon data analyst for an investment data analytics company, formerly known as Engaged Tracking.

He graduated in 2019 from Imperial College London after gaining a master’s degree in Environmental Technology with a focus on environmental economics and policy. Matthew also has a bachelor’s degree in Geophysics from Imperial College London.

Maximilian Richards

Research Analyst, Listed Investments

Maximilian is a research analyst for the listed equities team, responsible for idea generation, introduction of new companies to the investment pool and stock coverage.

Maximilian joined Impax in June 2022 as a fixed-term consultant and began his role as a permanent research analyst in October of the same year. Prior to Impax, Maximilian worked as a portfolio risk analyst at Io Macro, a macro hedge fund located in Monaco. Maximilian has a BSc in Mechanical Engineering from University College London (UCL) and an MSc in Finance from HEC Paris.

Patrick Sullivan

Research Analyst

Patrick joined Impax Asset Management in 2018 and in addition to his role as a research analyst, he is an investment advisor to the Impax funds.

Before joining the firm, Patrick served as a Rollover Education Specialist for John Hancock Financial Services. Prior to this, he served as a financial advisor at Baystate Financial. He is also a registered representative of Foreside Financial Services.

Patrick holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of New Hampshire’s Peter T. Paul College of Business and Economics, graduating summa cum laude, and is a Presidential Scholar with University Honors. Paul Peng

Research Analyst

Paul is primarily responsible for researching and generating new ideas in the technology and technology-enabled sectors in Asia specifically as well as globally.

He joined Impax in 2022 from Columbia Threadneedle Investments where he held a similar role, focusing on ESG strategies in emerging markets. He has also held analyst roles at Atlantic Investment Management and GfK Boutique Research.

Paul is pursuing a master’s degree in Computer Science at the University of Hong Kong with a focus on financial computing. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from City University of Hong Kong. In his spare time, Paul has also volunteered with various non-profits including the WWF and Green Peace.

Charles French

Deputy Chief Investment Officer, Listed Investments

Charles provides support and leadership in the development and growth of the Impax Asset Management’s listed investments business, covering research, idea generation, portfolio management, ESG integration, and trading.

Prior to joining Impax Asset Management in 2022, Charles worked at Newton Investment Management where he started out as a global financial analyst before becoming a portfolio manager and heading up Newton’s multi-asset and equity opportunities teams. He was also deputy chief investment officer, providing leadership and oversight to a global investment team.

Charles graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Nottingham. He is also a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants (ICAEW) in England and Wales.

Prior to joining Impax, Ludovic worked as an ESG Analyst at the FAIRR Initiative focusing on the ESG risks and opportunities in Animal Agriculture. Ludovic interned at Impact Cubed and CDP and holds a bachelor’s degree from UCL in environmental science and sustainable food systems.

Miriam Benarey

Sustainability and ESG Analyst

Miriam is responsible for many of the strategic projects and processes of Impax Asset Management’s sustainability and stewardship work, and coordinates the interface between the Impax Sustainability Lens and Impax’s other taxonomies, working closely with the investment team in developing Impax’s positions linked to the transition to a more sustainable economy. She is a member of our Beyond Financial Returns Group, developing metrics and methodologies for our sustainability reporting. Miriam is also a member of the Environment Group [former Environment Committee], responsible for developing the firm’s operational sustainability processes. Miriam has worked in the Sustainability and Stewardship team since joining the firm in 2019.

Prior to joining Impax, Miriam was a senior consultant for sustainability consultancy and software company thinkstep. She first became involved in sustainability when developing the corporate sustainability strategy and disclosures for a German SME consumer goods company, tea merchant TeeGschwender.

Miriam is an honors graduate of Utrecht University where she studied Business Economics and has a master’s degree in Global Management & Governance from the Hamburg School of Business Administration.

Nana Li

Head of Sustainability & Stewardship, Asia Pacific

Nana is responsible for helping lead Impax Asset Management’s sustainability and ESG efforts, overseeing ESG engagements with investees, managing external inquiries and supporting the ongoing development of proprietary ESG methodologies.

Previous to joining Impax, Nana was at the Asian Corporate Governance Association, where she held several roles over an eight-year period. A regular commentator on all things ESG, she is currently a member of the International Corporate Governance Network, Caixin’s China ESG30 Forum, and non-profit Women in Finance Asia.

Nana has an MBA from the University of Chicago, a master’s degree in Finance from the University of Hong Kong, and a bachelor’s degree in Commerce from the University of New South Wales. She is also a CFA Charterholder. Nana also volunteers for the RSPA, WWF, and Greenpeace.

Nicholas joined Impax from Arabesque Asset Management, where he worked as a Sustainable Investment Associate with a primary focus on Arabesque’s long-only global climate equity fund and the enhancement of Arabesque’s other quantitative strategies from a sustainability perspective. Nicholas holds a BSc in International Business Administration from Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University.

Paolo Macri

Paolo is responsible for the ongoing management and development of our Thematic Universe of stocks and related Taxonomies. He is also responsible for monitoring the delivery and interpretation of risk and exposure data across all strategies.

Paolo joined Impax in 2013 from Pactum Asset Management, where he worked as a risk analyst for a long/short natural resources equity fund. Previously, he worked as a research engineer at Politecnico di Torino Department of Energy in Turin, where he developed projects related to sustainable mobility.

Paolo holds an MBA in International Management from ESCP Business School as well as bachelor and master degrees in Industrial Engineering from Politecnico di Torino.

Thea Cheung

Thea is responsible for developing our taxonomies and universes, undertaking thematic revenue, ESG and impact analysis, carrying out stewardship activities, and researching sustainable finance frameworks and regulations.

Prior to her current role, Thea served as an intern in Impax’s listed equities team. She has previously held positions in projects and events management at various organisations including the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew and CarbonCare InnoLab. Thea’s passion for environmental sustainability also presented her with the opportunity to represent Hong Kong youth at COP24 and COP25.

A University of Hong Kong graduate with a bachelor’s degree in Food and Nutritional Science, Thea also holds a master’s degree in Environmental Technology from Imperial College London

Lisa Beauvilain

Global Head of Sustainability & Stewardship

Lisa heads the global sustainability and stewardship team at Impax. She is responsible for the oversight and development of sustainability research and methodologies, including the Impax Sustainability Lens and the firm’s proprietary ESG analysis, as well as overseeing Impax’s stewardship work. She is the Chair of Impax’s ESG and Sustainability Lens committees and Co-Heads the firm’s impact investment work.

Lisa joined Impax in 2010. She started working in the financial industry in 1999 and previously worked as an executive director in the Investment Management Division of Goldman Sachs in London.

She is actively participating in industry working groups and advisory councils furthering sustainable practices within corporate governance, climate, diversity and ESG standard setting in several external industry organisations.

Lisa has an MSc in Environment and Development from the London School of Economics as well as an MSc in Finance from the Hanken School of Economics, Finland.

David Loehwing

Head of Sustainability & Stewardship, North America

David leads the sustainability team in North America and is responsible for overseeing Impax’s sustainability and ESG research and development of its methodologies, as well as engagement and stewardship across Impax portfolios. David leads on Impax’s internal sustainability frameworks including the construction and management of Impax’s Systematic ESG Rating and the Impax Gender Score. He is a member of the Sustainability Lens Committee, Sustainability Policy Committee and ESG & Sustainability Committee which govern integration of sustainability and stewardship in Impax’s investment process.

David’s role at Impax also includes Co-Chair of the Environment Group and member of the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Group.

David has worked in sustainable investing since 1998. Before joining Impax in 2007, he worked in the field at Citizens Advisers and the Investor Responsibility Research Center. David has been active within industry working groups and advisory committees related to sustainable investing.

David graduated from Bowdoin College, Maine, with a BA in Sociology.

Simon is responsible for the development and implementation of investment risk management and the investment process.

Simon has worked in the financial sector since 1991, having previously worked at Helvetica Wealth Management Partners in Geneva, Jura Capital LLP, a London based hedge fund, Lazard Asset Management and Crown Financial where he trained as an actuary.

Simon holds an MSc in Computational and Numerical Mathematics from Imperial College, London, and a First Class honours degree in Mathematics from Liverpool University.

Steve Falci, CFA®

Head of Systematic & Multi-Asset Strategies

Steve oversees the firm’s systematic equity, multi-asset and fixed income strategies, as well as the integration of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) research into these strategies.

Before joining Impax in 2014, Steve was Head of Strategy Development for sustainable investments at Kleinwort Benson Investors. He was also Chief Investment Officer for equities at Calvert Group and Principal and Senior Portfolio Manager at Mellon Equity Associates. He currently serves on the board of directors at the US Forum for Sustainable and Responsible Investment and at Mercy Investment Services.

Charlie Donovan

Senior Economic Advisor

Charlie Donovan is Senior Economic Advisor at Impax and Professor of Practice in the Department of Finance and Business Economics at the University of Washington. Charlie’s role at Impax deepens the firm’s expertise in understanding the opportunities arising from a global energy transition. He contributes to Impax’s thought leadership initiatives and provides insights on North American policy developments to Impax’s clients and investment teams.

Before joining lmpax in 2022, Charlie was previously Professor of Practice at Imperial College London and Founding Executive Director of lmperial’s Centre for Climate Finance and Investment. In his corporate career, Charlie was Head of Structuring and Valuation for Global Power at BP plc and part of the team that launched BP Alternative Energy in 2005 with an $8 billion funding commitment. He began his career as an Energy Policy Analyst at the US Environmental Protection Agency during the Clinton Administration.

Charlie is co-author and editor of Renewable Energy Finance: Powering the Future, now in its second edition. He holds a BA from the University of Washington, an MBA from Vanderbilt University, and gained a DBA (Doctor of Business Administration) in Finance from IE Business School.

Deputy Head of Policy and Public Advocacy

As deputy head of policy and advocacy Shahbano works closely with investment teams to provide insights on the risks and opportunities created by policy changes and trends relevant to Impax’s portfolio. Her insights support the listed investment team’s idea generation process, company risk analysis and portfolio management decisions. Shahbano also supports the development of public policies and standards by working with regulators and industry bodies to shape policies that catalyse a more sustainable transition. Prior to joining Impax Shahbano was an Engagement Manager at Vivid Economics and Mckinsey, where she worked with governments, corporates and financial institutions on net zero transition pathways, energy decarbonisation and sustainable finance.

Shahbano has an MSc in International Economics and Public Policy at Sciences Po, Paris, and a BA in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from University of Oxford.

Chris Dodwell

Head of Policy & Advocacy

Chris Dodwell is Head of Policy and Advocacy at Impax Asset Management, a specialist investor focused on opportunities arising from the transition to a sustainable economy.

Chris’s team is responsible for advising Impax’s investment teams on the impacts of public policy and leads the firm’s work to support the development of new policies to accelerate a net-zero, nature-positive transition.

After qualifying as a solicitor at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, Chris worked on climate policy for the UK Government for more than a decade, where he led the UK implementation of the European carbon trading system and the UK delegation to the international climate negotiations. Later, as Director of Climate Change at Ricardo Energy and Environment, Chris supported more than 15 countries in developing and implementing their national climate pledges under the Paris Agreement and was a key member of the team that founded the Climate Finance Accelerator, a UK Government-funded programme aimed at increasing flows of private investment into climate solutions in middle income countries.

Chris has a BA Hons from the University of Cambridge and an LLM in Environmental Law from University College London.

Julie Gorte, Ph.D.

Senior Vice President for Sustainable Investing

Julie is a leading figure in Impax Asset Management’s sustainable investing work, coordinating systemic engagement and the financial implications of integrating sustainability into investment decision-making. Julie researches the connections between sustainability and economic performance. She also tracks and develops insights into the impact of public policy on investment and communicates with public policymakers to help make public policy more favorable to sustainability and sustainable investing. Julie is also a member of our Gender Analytics team.

Prior to joining the firm, Julie headed up the social investment strategy at Calvert. She has held senior roles at the Congressional Office of Technology Assessment, The Wilderness Society, and the Environmental Protection Agency.

Julie serves on the boards of the Endangered Species Coalition, E4theFuture, Clean Production Action, the Forum for Sustainable and Responsible Investment (US SIF) and is the board chair of the Sustainable Investments Institute. She holds a Ph.D. and a Master’s degree in resource economics from Michigan State University and has a Bachelor’s degree in forest management from Northern Arizona University.

Chief Risk Officer

Emily serves as Impax’s Chief Risk Officer.  She is responsible for overseeing Impax’s Enterprise Risk management framework and is Chair of the Enterprise Risk Committee.Emily joined Impax in 2021, where she worked initially as Head of Compliance for Impax’s Irish operations, before moving to her current role in October 2022. Emily is an Irish qualified lawyer. Prior to Impax, Emily was a legal adviser in private practice and in the Central Bank of Ireland before moving to senior compliance roles in BlackRock, LGIM and Eaton Vance Bar.

John Bastow

Chief Compliance & Risk Officer (Europe & Asia-Pacific)

John is accountable for Impax Asset Management’s global teams tasked with ensuring that risk, compliance and financial crime prevention activities operate effectively.

Prior to joining Impax, John headed up regulatory developments for Janus Henderson Investors, overseeing emerging regulatory priorities. Before joining Janus Henderson in 2012, John provided independent regulatory consulting to asset managers and investment banks in London and Hong Kong.

John holds a master’s degree in Financial Regulation and Compliance Management from London Metropolitan Business School. He also holds several industry qualifications related to investment compliance, anti-money laundering and enterprise risk management.

Catherine Bremner

Chief Strategy & Operations Officer

Catherine is Impax’s Chief Strategy & Operations Officer. She is responsible for line managing Impax Asset Management’s risk and compliance functions, IT, and operations, as well as strategic projects working with the CEO. With over 25 years of experience in sustainable development, finance, strategy and change management, she is also a highly respected leader in green finance.

Before joining Impax in 2021, Catherine spent five years at the UK Government’s Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy, including acting as Director General, responsible for around 500 staff tasked with developing the UK’s Net Zero Strategy and International Climate and Energy policy. She also chaired the UK Government’s Climate and Energy G7 Presidency in 2022. Before this, she was Global Head of Environmental Sustainability at Australian financial services firm ANZ. She was also Chief Operating Officer at Low Carbon Australia and Head of International Development at the Carbon Trust.

Outside of Impax, Catherine is on the Board of the Met Office and is the Chair of its Remuneration Committee.

Catherine holds a Master’s degree in Public Policy from the London School of Economics, a master’s degree in Environmental Science and Management from Oxford University and a bachelor’ degree (Hons 1st) in Chemical Engineering from The University of Queensland.

Darren Johnson

Global Chief Operating Officer

Darren Johnson is Impax’s Chief Operating Officer. He sits on our executive committee and is responsible for operations throughout the organisation. He has held this role since joining in 2007 and in that time has driven operational transformation, built teams and pioneered the company’s transition into cloud services to support rapid growth.

Prior to Impax, Darren held a similar role for family office Talisman Global Asset Management and his previous experience has included roles at RAB Capital, AXA Investment Managers, and Legal & General.

Darren sits on the board of several charities and organisations, including St Mungo’s, the UK’s largest homeless charity, and the investment advisory board of Comic Relief. He is a prominent advocate of diversity issues across financial services, is co-founder of TalkAboutBlack, sits on the CIC board of the Diversity Project, which aims to accelerate progress towards an inclusive culture in the investment and savings industry, and is on the Standing Committee for Investment 20/20, an organisation providing school leavers and graduates from non-traditional backgrounds with opportunities in asset management.

Zack Wilson

Group General Counsel

Zack serves as Group General Counsel for Impax Asset Management Group plc and is also Company Secretary. Prior to joining Impax in 2011, Zack was Director & General Counsel for the investment management and corporate finance advisory group Development Capital Management.

Previously he was Corporate Counsel for Telewest Global Inc (renamed Virgin Media Inc), where he played a leading role in managing the successful execution of high profile transactions including the Group’s US$10bn financial restructuring. Zack qualified as a solicitor at the global law firm Norton Rose, specialising in Corporate Finance.

He holds a Master of Arts in Jurisprudence from Oxford University.


Alicia DuBois

Alicia has held the CFO role since 2006 performing a range of vital finance, fund administration and compliance functions for Impax Asset Management.

Before joining Impax, Alicia was Assistant Vice President for mutual fund accounting and administration at Lincoln Financial Group, where she had responsibility for overseeing and reviewing all aspects of fund accounting operations, valuation, compliance monitoring, performance and regulatory reporting.

Alicia is a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. She has a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from C.W. Post Center of Long Island University.

John Boese

Chief Compliance Officer (North America)

John joined Impax Asset management in 2006 and now serves as Chief Compliance Officer (North America) for the firm.

Prior to joining Impax, John served as Vice President of Legal and Compliance, and then Vice President and Chief Regulatory Officer at the Boston Stock Exchange from 2000-2006. Before that, he held various legal and compliance positions at T. Rowe Price and Chase Bank. He also served as an Assistant Prosecutor for Monmouth County, New Jersey, from 1988 to 1990.

John earned his Juris Doctor from Vermont Law School and his Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, from Rutgers University. He is a member of the New Jersey Bar.

Brian Fruh

Chief Information Officer

Brian oversees the firm’s global information technology, technical strategy, direction and cybersecurity.

With 20 years’ experience in the financial technology sector, Brian has led several major projects for leading firms including securing the network and communications of one of the oldest savings banks in the United States, and developing e-commerce solutions during the dot-com boom years in Cambridge’s Kendall Square, Massachusetts, known as the ‘Silicon Valley of the East’.

Brian is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) and holds multiple Microsoft certifications. He serves on the Investment Company Institute’s Technology and Chief Information Security Officer Advisory Committees. He has a master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of New Hampshire with dual certifications in finance and global management, and a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Vermont.
